Bad product/Worst customer service

Worse product I've ever owned, I purchased the older model JVM17501MM on 06/29/2011 and it completely failed on 03/3132013, GE serviceman came to my home on 04/05/2013 and gave me a discounted (50% p&l) repair bill of $240.00. My consumer advocate at GE offered me a replacement of $250.00, funny since this item is selling all over for under $200.00. I will NEVER purchase any product from GE AGAIN. You should stay away. RUN away from this.

GE product service life and GE support policies an embarrassment!!

NOTES:- GE actually "earned" zero stars on this but "zero stars" is not available as a rating here.- This model is nearly identical to prior year models/series except the first letter of the model number (ie 2010 model = HVM1540, 2012 model = JVM1540). In speaking with GE and researching this online, we found the situation pretty much applied to all models of xVM-15xx/xVM-16xx series.We purchased this in Dec 2010 for $199, it is now dead as of Nov, 2012 (23 months). Contacted GE Customer Service to discuss the dozens of reviews on Home Depot, Lowes and other major retailers' websites since we purchased (last 23 months), indicating chronic magnetron failures. Hundreds of consumers outraged, an obvious design issue. Further proof comes from the fact that GE sells a "rebuild kits" for some of these models. The kits contain a magnetron, high-voltage diode and stirrer (a device located inside the top of the microwave that help distribute the microwave energy more evenly into the interior cooking cavity). GE conveniently sells these kits at a significant profit over the actual parts cost (and for a known problem!), and simultaneously declares no recall is necessary. What a scam. The parts kits approach the price of the microwave itself.Our calls to GE Customer Support were even more outrageous. After explaining that it's apparent there is a known issue with the product, I asked what GE could/would do to remedy the situation. In a nutshell, GE replied with the following:1) the unit received 5-stars from reviewers on THEIR OWN GE website2) no explanation for the hundreds of outraged customer reviews across all kinds of other retailers' websites3) GE Customer Support aggressively solicited us on the phone to upgrade to a model with a 5-yr warranty on the magnetron by purchasing a "Profile" line microwave, which the customer service rep on the phone would discounted for us to $386.Pathetic.- GE microwave -> $199- investigating why a relatively new product from a supposed reputable manufacturer failed prematurely -> a nauseating experience lasting several days- lesson learned: NEVER EVER buy a GE microwave (or maybe ANY GE product..ever again..and tell all your friends and work associates so they don't) -> priceless

Pathetic

Research around Amazon and other store reviews of this item. There are several alphabet jumbles of the same model but they are all the same. Junk. In my case, this was installed in a summer home, occupied 8 -10 weeks per year. It lasted for 5 seasons... I'll be generous and say 10 weeks per year, which would translate to this thing being in service for less than one year. Out of the blue, it started beeping, with the often repeated in other reviews "panel-shorted" message running across the screen.GE needs to own up to the fact that they are producing inferior, defective products and make good. I will never (knowingly) buy another GE microwave.
