STX Dehydra 800W from Mercantile Station2-great buy!

After reading tons of reviews on dehydrators and researching them I thought I wanted an Excalibur. I almost settled for a 30 year old Excalibur model when I found this beauty. I LOVE it. It's a nice solid model with 10 trays that fit snugly together. Came packaged very well and arrived quickly. I was weary of investing money in a product that wasn't a company I'd heard of but the other reviews of STX Dehydra models on Amazon let me know that this brand and the company I purchased from were top notch. I bought from Mercatile Station 2 on E-bay for a great price with free shipping for anyone who wants to know. It came within a few days. It comes with a drawer blank that wraps around the front so that you can remove several drawers and make yogurt or rise loaves of bread in it. Handy! Mine was broken but I called and they're shipping out the replacement free of charge. Jim was so helpful and pleasant to talk to. Honestly, the guy even offered that I can call back if I need help with learning how to use it.I've never written a review before but I felt compelled to let others know about the awesome customer service with this brand. I always look to Amazon for reviews and saw that there were none for this model so I had to comment.I'm making homemade granola this week from sprouted grains (just waiting for them to sprout)as well as some Neat Balls (meatless meatballs with cashews) and dried fruit. I will update on the functioning of this model and how the food turns out later this week or next when I've used it. For now I wanted to let people know that they can feel good about purchasing this beauty.UPDATE:We've made Neat Balls and breads, awesome mango tortilla wraps and dried Elderberries (I used the roll up mat for those). We made some raw desserts too and they were a hit. All in all the machine does what it's supposed to and is way easy to operate. It does have adjustable temperatures and a 40 hour timer which is easy to reset if you need it to keep going. I don't know what could actually make it any better. I've gotten away from raw foods a bit now but plan on using it this summer for fruit wrappers and saving food from our garden.

Bought one of these for putting produce from my gardens up this summer and for making jerky (got to have jerky!). As far as my choices went, it was a dead heat between the STX and the Excalibur. I went with the STX due to the customer reviews and the price. It has all the bells and whistles the Excalibur top model has for half the price.Wow! The STX is ginormous, holds a ton of food and dries everything I've used it for very well. First day I had it the kids and I dried a bunch of apple and banana chips for an upcoming road trip. This thing works better than the Excalibur my ma has had for eons, the convection makes drying so much easier and faster. Very pleased with it.So far I've done apples, bananas, 3 different jerkies, and raised bread dough. It hasn't let me down yet.Raising bread dough, well, slightly embarrassing story there. Before I bought this model STX I had been looking at their other dehydrator, which comes with the 4 tray blank door for doing larger items. I ordered this model STX, received it, and realized it hadn't come with the door blank. I sent an eMail off to The Mercantile Station through Amazon, in under five minutes I was getting a phone call. After a pleasant conversation, he explained where I had made my error (and, yes, it was MY error) and then informed me that he'd have one of his fabricators *make* me a custom door blank for my model STX, I received it in what had to be record time (about a week). Color me amazed, impressed, and grateful.If you're like I was, sitting on the fence trying to decide which dehydrator to buy, I can't recommend this dehydrator or seller enough.Great product, very nice and prompt people who will bend over backwards to make you happy, who else would you want to deal with?

I got the STX 800W series after reading the few reviews available online, and after hemming and hawing between the STX and the Excaliber, finally went for this one. Price was a big deciding factor as well :) I dont regret my decision at all. I love how easily cleaned the shelves are, and how surprisingly quiet the machine is. It gives off a light and pleasant hum which is in no way bothersome. It has done a great job for me so far drying a bunch of herbs and zucchini. Love that it has a programmable timer. As one other reviewer mentioned, it is not as easy as turning the switch to on, it did take a bit of figuring out, and is now a breeze. The shelves do fit very tightly together and as such sometimes they are a little hard to pull out without a bit of wiggling(of the shelf, not yourself). And it is very very large! I was a little bit shocked at the size of it when I opened up the box, so make sure you have plenty of room for it. Mine resides in my basement. I also purchased the STX from Mercantile Station on ebay. Recieved it within one week.
