Love my ice maker

There are four of us, and we are all ice fanatics. The perfect glass of water for me is 1/2 water 1/2 ice. We used to argue because we had four to six ice cube trays taking up freezer space and we'd go to get ice and there would be one ice cube left. Our fridge did have an ice maker but we had a leak in the line, in the wall, that would required taking down the wall, fixing the leak, redrywalling, a real pain. Instead I got a portable ice maker.This ice maker sits in the garage and makes ice all day long. We fill it probably once a day, use the middle size, and even in our new orleans heat it can keep up with our ice needs. No more opening the freezer and finding one cube left. We've had this over two years and had no problems. We wipe it down once a week for cleaning, it's got a drain on the side so it's really easy to clean.The sensor works by temperature, when the basket is full of ice the ice sits on, or close, to the sensor and that's how it knows to stop making ice. Even in NOLA, on the coldest days, the sensor stopped the ice making process because the outer temp was too cold. I had to put my finger on it for a few seconds to warm it up and start the process again. Here in New Orleans it's not that big of deal, but if you lived in a colder climate (which is most of the rest of the US anyway) during the winter the garage might not be the best place for it, unless your garage is heated.*ETA, apparently this ice maker is no longer available, but I recently got a NewAir AI-200w Portable Countertop Ice Maker With 35 Pound Daily Ice Making Capacity and it's pretty much the same ice maker.

Great ice maker

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and have it on my counter. I was apprehensive about buying it when I found out that the ice just fell in a basket and there was nothing to keep it cold. Now that I have this home and see how it works, this little machine is fantastic. When the ice melts it just recycles back down in the reservoir. We use purified water in it not tap water. Its just my husband and I and we have never run out of ice. You can leave it going all night and when you get up in the a.m. you have a full basket of ice just in cast you are an iced coffee person. Now as far as the price. Amazon is "usually" great with their prices but I always shop around and I bought mine at Walmart for $139.00....a big savings even with the shipping. This particular item did not have site to store for my area.

Very Pleased

After reviewing several portable ice makers, I decided to take my chances with this one. After following the mfg. instructions - letting it sit upright for 4 hours after shipment, washing it, placing it on the counter at least 5 inches from a wall, and then letting it sit for another hour - I plugged it in, poured in a gallon of water and had ice within 10 minutes. The first ice was a little small, but after the initial run, the ice is the correct size and does not have a metallic taste. It is a little wet, so if you put it in the freezer it will stick together. I break it apart and it does not stick together after that. It makes much more ice than we can possibly use, so I do not run it continuously. Two baskets of ice fill up my ice bin in my freezer. It makes a basket of ice in about two hours. The fan runs quietly, it is a little noisy as it gets ready to drop the ice. I have had it a week, and am very pleased with its performance and highly recommend it. If anything changes, I will update this post.Update: Dec. 2011 - ice maker has been working for 6 weeks without any problems at all. It makes more ice than we can possibly use. Highly recommend this product.
